NHRI STAFF TRAINED IN HOSPITAL WASTE AND HEALTH SERVICES MANAGEMENT IN ANGOLA
The Ministry of Health and the Portfolio of Health Projects funded by the World Bank, as part of the Regional Project for Strengthening Epidemiological Surveillance, REDISSE IV - Angola, organise from today, June 5, in Luanda, a training session on Hospital Waste Management and Health Services for Laboratories.
Views of training participants
This action aims to train staff and technicians of the National Health Research Institute (NHRI) in Hospital Waste and Health Services Management, also calling for compliance with the guidelines of the National Legislation, Presidential Decree 160/14, of 18 June, on Hospital Waste and Health Services Management; Presidential Decree 190/12, Waste Management Regulation; Presidential Decree 53/05, Legal Regime of Work Accidents and Professional Illnesses, as well as the Environmental and Social Standards (NAS), namely:
Ø Assessment and Management of Risks and Socio-environmental Impacts;
Ø Working Conditions and Manpower;
Ø Resource Efficiency and Pollution Prevention and Management; and
Ø Community Health and Safety.
Among other objectives, it is expected that by June 8, trainees will be able to:
Ø Identify the various groups of hospital waste;
Ø Address the risk and the perception of risk associated to hospital waste,
Ø To know the applicable legislation and its implications in the daily activities of laboratories;
Ø To know the various types of hospital waste treatment;
Ø To provide knowledge on how to elaborate a Hospital and Health Services Waste Management Plan
Ø To acquire sufficient knowledge on the efficient management of hospital waste, allowing the reduction of environmental pollution and work accidents.
Note that under the One Health Only approach, all the laboratories supported by REDISSE - IV Angola and by the projects of the Portfolio of Health Projects financed by the World Bank, will be trained to respond to an efficient management of hospital and health service waste. The training will run until 8 June.
