REDISSE IV ANGOLA - SUPPORT FOR RABIES VACCINATION
From January 15 to 16, 2024 in Luanda, a meeting of the
members of the Technical Commission against rabies was held, according to the integrated
"One Health" approach.
The aim of the meeting was to prepare the working documents for the meeting of the Interministerial Commission (National Contingency and Emergency Plan and Strategy against Rabies), as well as the technical instruments needed to implement a massive anti-rabies vaccination campaign for dogs and cats, with the aim of eliminating dog-transmitted rabies in humans by 2030.

The Regional Program for the Enhancement of Disease
Surveillance Systems (REDISSE IV-ANGOLA), based on the "One Health"
approach, aims to strengthen national and regional intersectoral capacities for
epidemiological disease surveillance and epidemic preparedness in the ECCAS
region, and to provide a rapid and effective response to crises and
emergencies. It is in this context that REDISSE IV-ANGOLA plans to support the
national animal rabies vaccination campaign, which will take place in the
country's eighteen (18) provinces.
In Angola, the Ministry of Health (MINSA), through the National Directorate of Public Health, has reported an average of 208.1 cases of rabies per year between 2010 and 2022, and 236 in 2023.
