THE EXPERTS OF THE REGIONAL COORDINATION AND MANAGEMENT UNIT AND THE COORDINATORS OF THE MANAGEMENT UNITS OF THE BENEFICIARY COUNTRIES OF THE REDISSE IV PROJECT COMMIT THEMSELVES TO STRENGTHEN THE COORDINATION OF THE SAID PROJECT
Libreville, 27 April 2022 - A meeting was held on Wednesday between experts of the Regional Coordination and Management Unit (UCGP) of the Project for Strengthening Regional Disease Surveillance Systems in Central Africa, Fourth Phase (REDISSE IV) and the coordinators of the said Project from all beneficiary countries.
Chaired by Dr Ludovic FIOMONA TAMADEA, Coordinator of the UCGP, based at the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), the meeting aimed at sharing the main challenges encountered in the implementation of the REDISSE IV project with a view to proposing corrective measures.
The participants exchanged on: i) the progress of the implementation of the project in each of the five beneficiary countries, ii) the state of implementation of the recommendations of the World Bank supervision mission to the UCGP, iii) the draft monitoring and evaluation plan being developed, iv) the importance of communication and visibility of the project, and v) the strengthening of laboratory capacities, etc.
From the rich exchanges that followed the presentations, the participants expressed their willingness and determination to spare no effort for an effective implementation of the Project, despite the late start of the Project in some countries.
The main challenges identified were: the slowness of the procurement process, the delay in recruiting project staff, the delay in officially setting up the "One Health" coordination platforms at country level, the setting up of the technical sub-committees of the Regional Steering Committee, etc.
At the end of the meeting, the REDISSE IV Project Coordinators in the countries and the UCGP staff agreed to meet monthly on a statutory basis and whenever necessary with the specific countries to discuss bottlenecks that require support and advocacy at the regional level.
To this end, all entities were invited to share all useful information on a regular basis as part of the project's animation.
The REDISSE IV Project is being implemented in the five (5) countries of ECCAS, namely Angola, Central African Republic, Congo, DRC and Chad.
The Regional Coordination Unit is based within the ECCAS Commission, under the supervision of the Commissioner in charge of the Department of Gender, Human and Social Development.
